The life and martyrdom of Mária Magdolna Bódi teach us that faith and love, even in their simplest forms, can reach far. The traveling stones carry this message. People take these stones with them, place them in various locations, and then others find them and carry them further. In this way, the stones, symbolically, also “carry” the message of Mária Magdolna Bódi’s life across the world.
The traveling stone initiative was launched by the Archdiocese of Veszprém in September. It is part of the preparation for Mária Magdolna Bódi’s beatification in April 2025. The essence of the initiative is that participants create painted stones in memory of Mária Magdolna Bódi (based on their own knowledge, experience, or ideas), and then place these stones wherever they go, whether in nature, in urban areas, or even abroad. The stones carry symbolic messages that convey the love, faith, and example of the young martyr to those who discover them.
Recently, a pilgrim took one of these traveling stones to Rhodes, while others have placed painted stones in Innsbruck, Munich, Ózd, and Siófok. A believer found one in Mátraverebély and carried it to Jánosháza, while others placed stones in Balatonalmádi. Each of these “traveling” stones carries the love of Christ and the faith that defined Mária Magdolna Bódi’s life.
pThe traveling stones reach far, but most importantly, they leave a deep impression in people’s hearts. Just as Mária Magdolna Bódi walked her life’s path with quiet but strong faith, these stones also travel the world quietly but with a profound message. Everyone has the opportunity to share the Good News, faith, and love through something as simple as a stone. Through these traveling stones, Mária Magdolna Bódi’s faith, sacrifice, and love live on throughout the world.
